William Emmett Fickes

William Emmett Fickes, Sr., 86, of 11810 Hunters Ridge Blvd., Meadville, formerly of 12954 Raymond Dr., Meadville, passed away Friday, January 8th, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
William was born in Ford City on April 23, 1923, a son of the late Emmett Samuel and Mary Mable (Flanders) Fickes.
On July 10, 1946 William married Bernadine 'Bernice' Tirpak; she preceded him in death on February 23, 2006.
He was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
In 1988 William retired as a foreman of the Maintenance Department from the Meadville plant of PPG. He had begun his employment career with PPG in Ford City in 1941. A WW II veteran, William served in the US Army from January 18, 1943 until his honorable discharge on January 23, 1946. William was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2006. His hobbies included hunting, loading shells and target shooting.
William is survived by three sons William E. Fickes, Jr. and his wife Clare of Tucson, AZ, Robert L. Fickes and his wife Luz of Silverdale, WA, Michael D. Fickes and his wife Linda of Baldwinsville, NY, five grandchildren Barbara L. Fickes-Steinfeld, Julie M. Russell, Angela S. Larson, Christine Fickes-Potte, Robert Adam Fickes, six great grandchildren, two sisters Jean Hielman and her husband Ray of Ford City, Sally Galagher of Kittanning, a brother Daniel Fickes and his wife Marie of Arvada, CO, close friends Clark and Carole Hoffman, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Bernice of 59 years, William was preceded in death by a sister Betty Hielman, four brothers Robert, James, Emmett S. and Jack Fickes.
At the familys request there will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date which will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, PA 16335.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
