William D. Darling

July 6, 1944 — May 16, 2025

Townville, PA

William ("Bill", "Dixie") D. Darling, 80, of Townville, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at Marquette Hospice House, Meadville.

Bill was born in Meadville, on July 6, 1944, a son of the late Dixie Howard and Reha (Sherwood) Darling.

Following his graduation from Meadville High School and Crawford County Vo-Tech, Bill began his Journeyman Tool and Die career. He was employed by ACTCO and Layke Tool before becoming employed by Pasco Tool and Die where he worked until his retirement. During his decades in the trade, he was always willing to share his knowledge with the apprentice toolman who continue to recount their appreciation to this day. During his earlier years he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Townville Fire Department. Bill was a gentle and kind man who was soft spoken and quiet. Yet, he was a great storyteller with a great sense of humor, which was demonstrated in his harmless pranks. An animal lover, Bill had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved taking walks in the woods, camping, and the outdoors. His family meant the world to him, and he selflessly dedicated his life to them. He loved his family deeply. He never raised his voice and his patience was endless. He will be sadly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters Brenda L. Darling, Kelly Clark (Joel), both of Meadville; three grandsons Robert Swartzfager (Kate), Dylan Swartzfager, Wade Clark; a great granddaughter Grace Marie Stevenson; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brother Denny and sister Dixie.

No services are being planned at this time.
