Ward N. Sherrod, 84, of 9678 Krider Rd., Meadville, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Meadville Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Ward was born in Meadville, on August 4, 1931, a son of the late Kenneth and Vera (Ward) Sherrod, Sr.

On September 20, 1952 Ward married Claire E. Whaley; she survives.

He was an active member of First Christian Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for more than 60 years and was a member of the Victory Class.

After 31 years of service, Ward retired as Chief of Security from the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville. Following his retirement, he was employed as a security officer at Allegheny College for ten years. Ward was a graduate of Pittsburgh Suburban Police Academy, served with the Heavy Mortar Company #112 of the Pennsylvania National Guard and was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. He was an artist, poet and a gentleman who loved the outdoors, especially his woods. His children and grandchildren were his joy. He served his Lord and Savior all his life and was a man of integrity. Ward loved deeply and was deeply loved. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Claire, of 63 years, Ward is survived by a daughter Jane Dean, a son William Sherrod and his wife Mary, both of Meadville, four grandchildren Amy Kessler and her husband William, Laura Wilgus and her husband Blair, Paul Dean, Luke Sherrod, two great grandchildren, Jacob and Emily Kessler, a sister Alice McCoy and her husband Richard of Williston, FL, a brother Kenneth Sherrod, Jr. and his wife Marjorie of Pickerington, OH, a sister in law Valania Niemla and her husband John of Albion, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ward was preceded in death by a son in law, Edward Dean, two sisters Dorothy Haddenham, Beverly Sherrod, and a brother in law Floyd Haddenham.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-6 on Sunday at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville and on Monday from 10-11 at First Christian Church, 503 N. Main St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Nephew Tom Sherrod, Pastor of Worthington Christian Church, Lewis Center, OH, officiating.

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, Ward will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
