Velva May Burge

Velva May Burge, 85, of Saegertown, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Crawford County Care Center.

Velva was born at home in Vernon Township, on December 4, 1935, a daughter of the late Lester A. and Goldie May (Herman) Haun.

On July 27, 1957, Velva married Kenneth L. Burge; he survives.

Velva had been employed by the former Mead Nursing Home as a nurse aide for 18 years. She had previously been employed by the former G.C. Murphy Co. For many years she and her husband were members of the Conneaut Kickers Square Dance Club. She had taken many trips with Anderson Bus Tours and enjoyed traveling. Trips to Alaska and Montana were among her favorites. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and raising her family. She loved knitting and cooking for them. Family was the most important thing in her life; she will be missed.

In addition to her husband, Kenny, of 63 years, Velva is survived by three children Arnold C. Burge (Shari) of Victor, MT, Dale L. Burge (Brenda M.) of Centerville, Linda Haines (Bob) of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Velva was preceded in death by a son Kelvin Burge; two grandchildren; two brothers Frank "Red" Haun, Harold Haun; and a sister Gertrude Barickman.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 3, 20201, from 4-6 PM and also on Friday, from 10-11 AM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, where Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM with Pator Jeff Little of Saegertown United Methodist Church officiating.

Velva will be laid to rest in Saegertown Cemetery.
