Sophia Elizabeth Proffitt, 29, of Meadville, passed away at home on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Sophia was born in Sumter, SC, on January 29, 1997, a daughter of John A. and Mary Lou (Collins) Proffitt, Jr.
Following her 2017 graduation from Meadville High School, Sophia enrolled in Fortis Institute of Erie, where she earned her Associate Degree in 2019 through the Dental Assistant Program. She worked at various dental offices and was currently employed by Harborcreek Dental.
Sophia found joy in drawing and painting, and her love of music knew no genre. An extravert with an unmistakable sense of style, Sophia had a heart that was even bigger. She was intense, compassionate, hilarious, and deeply loving. She cared fiercely about the people around her and always wanted to make the world a little better. Sophia had a rare ability to make people feel seen, loved, and accepted simply by being herself. She treasured her friends and family, and in return, she was deeply loved by so many. Her presence brought warmth, laughter, and love into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Sophia will be profoundly missed and forever carried in the hearts of those who loved her.
Sophia is survived by her fiancé, Quentin Banks of Meadville; her daughter, Victoria Basile; Astra Basile, who was like a daughter to her; her mother, Mary Lou Proffitt of Meadville; her father, John Proffitt (Izabela Bartosiewicz) of Espyville; two sisters, Whitney Proffitt of IL and Miriah Proffitt (girlfriend Kim Martin) of Hartville, OH; maternal grandmother, Mary Collins of Meadville; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Sophia was preceded in death by her brothers, Jordan Proffitt and Christopher John Bartosiewicz Proffitt; maternal grandfather, James Collins; and paternal grandparents Sue Ashley and John A. Proffitt Sr.
Family and friends are invited to call from 1-3 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 3 PM with Elder Tilmon Moyer officiating.
