Shirley Ann "Pearl" Karastury

Shirley Ann Karastury, fondly known as "Pearl," graced this world with her vibrant spirit from August 16, 1941, until her serene departure May 7, 2025. Born in Cumberland, Maryland, her journey was underscored by an unwavering devotion to family, faith, and the simple joys of life.

Pearl’s heart knew no bounds, as she poured love into all that she did. She dedicated more than a decade of her life working in the housekeeping department at Meadville Medical Center before transitioning to the world of home health care. Her nurturing spirit extended well beyond the professional realm; she lived for her children and grandchildren, drawing joy from their triumphs and comforts in their struggles. Being a grandmother brought a twinkle to her eye, especially with the lively company of her eight grandchildren—Andrew, Dalton, Saige, Skye, Paris, Payten, Tanner, and Lily—and her cherished great-grandchild, Lucas. Additionally, her adoration extended to her granddogs, each wagging tail a testament to her boundless love for family.

Shirley, whose maiden name was Johnson, held her faith close to her heart. A devoted member of New Beginnings Church of God, she helped foster the beginnings of Mercy House, a pillar of support for others. Her fervent spirit shone through in her daily acts of kindness—whether it was drawing or writing poetry, her artistic pursuits brought her comfort and connected her to her passions. She loved sharing her faith, reciting scripture that resonated deeply within her soul, often inspiring others to find solace in her abiding belief.

In her quieter moments, Shirley's sweet tooth would lead her to delightful treats and her affinity for collecting knick-knacks and stuffed animals allowed her to showcase the whimsical side of her personality.

Though she has passed on, Shirley is now where she longed to be, embraced in the love of her God. She rejoices in reunion with her beloved siblings—William Johnson, Mary Shesky, and Bob Johnson—those who have gone before her.

Her legacy lives on through her devoted children: Mickey Ann Zelasco (David) of Meadville, William Wayne Karastury (Senta) of Conneaut Lake, Shannon Louise Rouse (Jeffrey Grinell) of North Carolina, her niece and bonus daughter Tina Shesky of Cambridge Spring. In every loving gesture, in every shared story, Pearl will continue to touch the lives of those she adored.

As we bid farewell to this beautiful soul, we remember Pearl not just for the years she graced us with her presence, but for the love she spread, the faith she nurtured, and the profound impact she made on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
