Ruth Jane Hearn

Ruth Jane Hearn, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on June 10, 1934, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Ruth was the daughter of the late Marvin and Isabella (Davis) Walker. She graduated from Meadville Senior High School, where she found joy in singing with the school choir—a passion she carried throughout her life.

On July 24, 1968, Ruth married Robert Hearn, Jr., who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and family.

A devoted member of St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church in Meadville, Ruth served faithfully in the choir, on the usher board, and as part of the kitchen committee. Her voice, presence, and service were cherished by all who knew her.

Ruth worked at Mellon Bank as part of the cleaning staff before joining the Custodial Team at Crawford Central School District. She served at the former Junior High School, Senior High School, and Second District Elementary School until her retirement, earning the respect and affection of students and staff alike. She found joy in simple pleasures—fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Ruth is survived by her son Curtis Matthews; daughters Maureen Matthews, Sharon Matthews, and Denise Matthews; stepson William Robert Hearn; granddaughters Deanne Wofford, Karli Taskin (Matthews), Sharene Friday (Matthews), Preyah James, and Chalai Wofford; grandson Lamar Matthews; step-granddaughter Maya Hearn; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will carry her memory forward.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Marlon Matthews and sister Janette Walker.

Her legacy of love, strength, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation is 11 AM-1 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Home Going Service will follow at 1 PM with Pastor Beverly Williams officiating.

Ruth will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
