Raymond Alfred Zeuner

Raymond Alfred Zeuner, 89, of Wesbury Retirement Community in Meadville PA, formally of Howland OH, passed away on September 21, 2026 with family members by his side.

Raymond was born May 2, 1937, in Buffalo NY, the son of the late Alfred R. and Erika I. (Vogel) Zeuner.

Raymond attended Riverside High School in Buffalo, NY from where he graduated in 1955. Following graduation, he attended the University of Buffalo until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957. While serving in the Navy, he was assigned to operate the closed-circuit television network at NATO Atlantic Operations on the US side of the Atlantic at the Norfolk Naval Facility. He was also the leading Electronic Technician on the Destroyer S Court USS Basilone. After active duty, Raymond taught basic electronics at the Buffalo, NY Naval Reserve.

Following his military service, Raymond then returned to the University of Buffalo where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1965.

He joined Republic Steel Corp. in 1963 as an engineering trainee at the Buffalo, NY district. Following a number of promotions in the engineering department, he became assistant chief engineer for the district in 1973 and acting chief engineer in 1980. In 1981, he was named chief engineer of the Republic Mahoning Valley District in Ohio. He was named works engineer, LTV Steel Co., Warren, Ohio in 1984, and chief engineer when Warren Consolidated Industries was formed in 1988. His many achievements include research in hot mill delay table heat retention panels, and steel making precipitator rehabilitation. He has also been listed as a noteworthy manufacturing engineer by Marquis Who’s Who.

During his professional career, Raymond had served as chairman of the AISE- Association of Iron and Steel Engineers Niagara District Section, Youngstown District, chairman of Environmental Engineering Division, and was national director in 1981, 1988, 1993 and 1997. Until his retirement in 1999, he was a registered professional engineer in New York and in Ohio.

Raymond enjoyed boating with his family, and upon moving to Howland Ohio in 1981, he became a member of the Cortland Conservation Club at Mosquito Lake in Cortland OH. While a member for over 40 years, he was named president three times. He was also in charge of all the new seawall installations. He was an avid craftsman and was happiest with a tool in his hand, whether shaping a new woodworking project or engineering the details of his beloved model train table.

Raymond married the love of his life, the former MaryEllen Zeppenfeld on June 15, 1963, in Buffalo NY, and they celebrated over 58 years of marriage until her passing on April 8, 2022.

Raymond leaves behind his daughters, Susan (Mark) Miller of Meadville PA, Sandra Zeuner of NYC and sons, Jeffrey (Christy) Zeuner of Mililani, HI currently residing in Germany, and Raymond J. Zeuner of Denver CO; his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller of Meadville, Jennifer Miller of Bismarck ND, Victoria Zeuner of Boston MA, Logan (Jessica) Zeuner of Seattle WA and Isabella Zeuner of Mililani HI currently residing in Germany.

To honor Ray’s wishes, there will be no service.
