After a lingering illness, Michael D. Veslany, aged 82, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Meadville, PA.
He was born on October 16, 1943 in Munhall, PA, a son of Michael Edward and Mary Ann (Duda) Veslany.
He leaves behind much love for his immediate family and also strong respect for his blue-collar upbringing, his alma mater (Penn State University), and the American glass industry, in which he was employed for his entire adult career.
Veslany received his B.A. degree in Labor Management Relations from Penn State in 1965 and started his career as a rotating shift Shipping Supervisor at Anchor Hocking's Lancaster, Ohio facility. After a company change and numerous position changes, he eventually retired as the Customer Service Director at PPG's Meadville facility in 2003.
He met his wife, Janice (Keating) Veslany, at a dance in Bethel Park, PA, during the summer of 1961. She was the love of his life and he never stopped referring to her as "my dream girl." After learning one another's hopes and dreams, they were wed in June, 1964 at Resurrection Church in Pittsburgh. They shared more than 61 years of a devoted marriage. Together they both enjoyed extensive domestic and overseas travel, as well as their daily routines in their beloved Meadville home of 50 years, including daily conversations over their morning coffee. Most of all, they delighted in their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Besides of a love of travel and their Meadville home, Veslany's interests included writing, genealogy, politics, popular music, and his beloved football teams the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions. He was a longstanding board member of Meadville Medical Center's Corporation Board of Directors and the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week summer program.
Without any doubt, what meant the most to him was his family. Along with his beloved wife, Janice, his memory lives on via their wonderful children Deborah (Todd) Forbes of Plainfield, NJ, Michael (Laura) Veslany of Wake Forest, NC, and Kathleen (David) Veslany of Oxford, OH; along with their grandchildren Ashley (Andrew), Sarah, Samantha (Shon), Michael, Adam, Emily, Eleanor, and Vivian; and their great grandchildren Brandon, Evelyn, Jax, and Lorelai.
His lessons about love, loyalty, and value will endure along with myriad memories. He was truly like no one else, with wisdom, generosity, and gratitude to spare; he'll be deeply missed.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
