Michael Spencer Rowland

Michael Spencer Rowland, 62, of Saegertown, PA, passed away peacefully at Meadville Medical Center on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Mike was born on August 31, 1963, in Meadville. He grew up in Edinboro and attended General McLane High School, where he was a member of the golf and baseball teams, and was a writer and editor for the school newspaper. After graduation he enrolled at West Virginia University before eventually earning a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Communications from Edinboro University.

While at Edinboro he worked in the Athletic Department, mainly in the Sports Information Office, which led to several impressive positions in the sports industry. He was a Communications Intern for the Buffalo Bills during the team's 1992-93 Super Bowl run. Representing the Bills at Super Bowl XXVII in Pasadena, CA, was one of the highlights of his career. From there, Mike was named Sports Information Director at Division I University at Buffalo, and later moved on to the Arena Football League, where he served as the league's Director of Communications and Media Relations. Several other positions followed, including a stretch as a sportswriter for the Meadville Tribune.

Mike was genuinely liked by everyone who knew him. In his younger days, he was known as a fun-loving person who was always up for an adventure. He spent time living in locations across the country,

including Tampa, FL, Lake Tahoe, NV, and Dallas, TX, to name a few. As time went on, Mike developed a real appreciation for spirituality, and he was an active member of the church in his later years. He will be remembered for his generosity, his warm heart, and his enduring sense of humor. Mike will be sincerely missed by many.

Mike is survived by his mother, Theodora, of Saegertown; his father, Charles, of Farmers Branch, TX; his brother, Mark, sister-in-law, Sandra, and nieces, Allison and Megan, of Fairfield, CT; and his sister, Lesley Stone, and brother-in-law, Drew, of Farmers Branch, TX. He is predeceased by his brother, Tyler.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
