Margaret Florence Vendel Toner, age 95, of Meadville, broke the bonds of her aging body and left this earth on January 4, 2026, in Marquette Hospice House.
Born September 21, 1930, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Banko) Vendel, proud Slovakian immigrants. Marge and her siblings were first generation Americans.
Marge grew up in Conneautville and attended Fish Corners, a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from Conneautville High School in 1948. A dedicated Registered Nurse, Marge earned her nursing degree at Spencer Hospital School of Nursing. She spent the majority of her career at Spencer Hospital, transferring to City Hospital after the two hospitals merged. She made lifelong friends there who always stayed in touch. Marge retired from nursing in 1994.
A member of St. Brigid Church (The Epiphany of the Lord Parish), Marge enjoyed working the St. Brigid’s rummage sale for many years. She loved baseball and was an avid NY Yankee fan, always rooting for Derek Jeter. She also enjoyed reading a good book, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends and family. Grandma and Bubba, she loved her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Marge is survived by her three children, David L. Toner (Karen), of Meadville, Patricia A. Thomas of Kempner, TX, Thomas J. Toner (Amy) of Meadville; four grandchildren, David Thomas (Audra) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Brett Thomas (Jamie) of Smithville, GA, Alex Toner (Cait) of Gibsonia, PA, Emma Berkstresser (Max) of Meadville; five great-grandchildren, Vivian Thomas, Sloan Thomas, Arrah and Aliza Toner, Harrison Berkstresser; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The last of the Vendel siblings, Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Ballas (George), her infant sister, Helen, her brother, John Vendel, her sister, Anna Vendel, her brother, Joseph Vendel (Lois), her brother, Albert Vendel (Delores), and her sister, Elizabeth Schmidt (Jack), and her great grandson Judge Thomas.
Marge’s family would like to thank the staff at Marquette Hospice House, who couldn’t have been more compassionate and caring with Marge and our family in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to call from 1-2 PM on Monday, January 12, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Mass of Resurrection will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 PM, with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.
Interment will be at St. Brigid Cemetery immediately after Mass.
