Loretta Susanna Verga

Loretta Susanna Verga, 76, of Meadville, passed away Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at Meadville Medical Center, Transitional Care.

Loretta was born in Meadville, on October 2, 1949, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Land) Minnick.

On December 21, 1990 Loretta married John R. Verga, Sr.; he survives.

A devout Catholic, Loretta was a member of the former St. Brigid Church and Holy Cross Fraternity where she served as Vice-Minister as a Secular Franciscan.

Loretta graduated from Conneaut Valley High School and Meadville Vo-Tech as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She went on to graduate from St. Vincent School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and later furthered her education by earning her license as a Nursing Home Administrator. She also earned her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Public Health graduating Sigma Cum laude. Loretta worked at Meadville Medical Center for over 18 years then moved into Long Term Care where she worked as a Director of Nursing Home Administrator. She worked for the State of Pennsylvania and finished her career working at Stairways Behavioral Health. Loretta was a member of the American Nurses Association for Directors of Nursing in Long Term Care. She was also affiliated with the National Neurofibrosis Society and Saegertown American Legions Post #205. Loretta enjoyed international travel, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren Foxx and Kacie Mook. For more than 50 years, she dedicated her life to being a nurse, serving the sick, and being a special advocate for the marginalized in society.

In addition to her husband, John, of 36 years, Loretta is survived two children Christopher Mook (Heather), Laura Christopher; three step children Michael Verga, Laura Christopher, John Verga, Jr. (Patty); numerous grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Visitation is Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 5-7 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE where the Rosary will recited at 6:30.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026 at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Kyle Seyler officiating.

Loretta will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Cemetery, Conneautville.
