Lewis "Sonny" M. Kougher

Lewis "Sonny" M. Kougher, 78, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Lewis was born in Meadville, on August 12, 1947, a son of the late Merrill and Luella (McFadden) Kougher.

Sonny married Linda L. McKay; she survives.

Following his 1969 graduation from Meadville High School, Sonny became employed by the former American Viscos; he then entered the US Army. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a Security Guard at Channellock before gaining employment with the former Meadville Malleable, where he retired after 28 years of service. Sonny was a member of the Meadville Eagles, VFW Post #2006, and Masonic Lodge #408. He enjoyed woodworking and was known to craft furniture for several people. He will be remembered as a great person and will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Linda, Sonny is survived by a daughter Crystal Peters (James) of Saegertown; a grandson Nicholas Peters; a sister Levina Hunt (William) of Meadville; a half sister Gula Mae Smith of Andover; a sister in law Patricia A. Ridgeway of Meadville; a close friend LeRoy Stearns; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by two half sisters Dessie Mae Oster and Anna May Eddy.

Visitation will be from 12-2 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Memorial Service will follow at 2 PM opening with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
