Larry J. Yartz

Larry J. Yartz passed away in Erie, on August 6, 2023 after a short illness.

He was born January 29, 1942 to John Yartz Junior and Lillian A. (Vidic) Yartz in Butler.

Larry graduated from Moniteau High School in May 1960 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Slippery Rock State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.  After graduating from Slippery Rock he was awarded a NASA Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma to pursue a PhD in Mathematics. He earned a Master of Arts degree from Oklahoma University in June 1966 in Mathematics.

Larry was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Allegheny College in Meadville, and served as the Treasurer and Director of Institutional Research at Allegheny College beginning in 1978 through January 1996.

In May 1992 Larry founded the Meadville Medical Center Foundation where he was President and CEO. He retired from that position in January 1999.

Larry was a member of the Board of Corporators and a Board Member of the Meadville Area Industrial Commission for over 40 years. He was also the current President and CEO of the Meadville Housing Corporation since 1988. He was a member of the Meadville Literary Union from 1982 onwards.

Larry was elected to the Scientific Society of the Society Sigma Xi at the University of Oklahoma in 1997.

He married Carolyn R. Weilacher in August 1966. They subsequently lived in Meadville for the rest of his life.  Larry was preceded in death by an infant son, Derek J. Yartz, born May 25, 1970, died May 26, 1970. He is survived by wife Carolyn R. Yartz and daughter, Kristen R. Yartz, son-in-law Jeremy P. Slade and granddaughters Lily M. Slade and Matilda B. Slade of Dandridge, TN.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday at 3:30 PM at West Sunbury Union Cemetery, Hallston Rd., West Sunbury, Butler County.

Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
