Kay Lorraine McCartney, 79, of Cochranton, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at home, surrounded by her family.

Kay was born in Oil City, on February 15, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert and Martha (Altman) Gatesman.

On June 17, 1967, Kay married James R. McCartney; he survives.

She was a member of St. Agatha Church.

Kay graduated in 1965 from the first class of Venango Christian School. After high school she worked for Oliver Brothers for a short time. She then became a full time homemaker as she delighted in raising her twin boys. During these years Kay set up a cake baking and supplies business in her home where she made all types of cookies, countless cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special events. Her love of baking stayed with her all her life. She also helped her father with his printing business. After the twins turned 16, Kay became employed by U.S. Consolidated Farm Services Agency working in Crawford, Venango and Warren counties, retiring after more than 20 years of service. Kay was a life long learner and was happy to share her wisdom with others. She was a member of The Twins Club and Vernon Central Hose Co. Kay's priorities in life revolved around her family. She loved staying close to them and to her home, especially enjoying evenings by the family pool.

In addition to her husband, James, of 58 years, Kay is survived by a son Greg McCartney of Perryopolis; grandchildren Arybella McCartney, Brittany Brown (Jackson), Bradley McCartney (Sierra), Sierra McCartney, Karley McCartney, Dakota Lilley (Emily); great grandchildren Silas Brown, Maisie Brown, Paisley McCartney, Easton Lilley, Brody Brown; and a sister Barbara Capp of Oil City.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey McCartney; a daughter in law Erin McCartney; and a brother Bob Gatesman.

Visitation is from 3-6 PM on Monday, June 8, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.

Kay will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay's memory to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
