Kathryn "Kay" Belle Jones

Kathryn "Kay" Belle Jones, 100, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at home.

Kay was born in West Middlesex, on February 18, 1923, a daughter of the late David and Martha (Bruce) Phillips.

On April 30, 1950 Kay married Samuel Jones; he predeceased her on April 4, 1983.

Kay was proud of her 45 years of service with Talon and of the fact that she was the first African American woman hired there. She was a 1941 graduate of Farrell High School. A long time member of St. John's Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, Kay was also a member of Aglow. She was the last original member and one of the last two surviving members of Town Club, a local group of several close knit, God fearing women, who regularly gathered together with their families for picnics, parties, church events and great times. God was first in Kay's life with her family a close second. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

Kay is survived by two children Rebecca Jones of Meadville, Phillip S. Jones of West Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren Roger K. Johnson of Meadville, Michael L. Johnson of Toluca Lake, CA; siblings Marjorie Wilson of Philadelphia, Walter Phillips of Bulger, Charles Phillips of Mercer; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by twelve siblings.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1-2 PM on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at St. John Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where a Home Going Service will follow at 2 PM with Kay's niece, Diane Kathryn Jones McVay, officiating.

Kay will be laid to rest with her husband in Greendale Cemetery.
