Joseph A. Palmer, 74, of Saegertown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at UPMC Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
Joseph was born in Meadville, on October 1, 1951, a son of the late Howard and Della (Orr) Palmer.
On April 6, 2013, Joseph married Laura B. Shaner; she survives.
He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church.
The year following his 1970 graduation from Saegertown High School, Joseph entered the US Air Force and served his country honorably for 20 years. He was the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Long Term Ribbon, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award, among others. During his service time, he enjoyed playing Air Force golf and learned to scuba dive. When he returned to civilian life, Joseph worked as a security guard for Wells Fargo for three years before gaining employment at SCI in Cambridge Springs, until his second retirement. Joseph was a member of Saegertown Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Joseph enjoyed Lionel model trains and had a collection of Hallmark Christmas ornaments, as well as all types of magnets, key chains, and knickknacks from the many places he traveled.
In addition to his wife, Laura, Joseph is survived by two step children Tomi Dilworth (Benjamin Corbin) of Kinsman, OH, Summer Tribley (Michael) of Linesville; three step grandchildren Fionna, Alaric, Leander; two brothers Dale Palmer (Cindy) of NJ, Bruce Palmer (Judy) of AZ; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by two sisters Jane Palmer and Mary Ann Palmer.
Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN.
Funeral services will open with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, with Rev. Jeff St. Clair officiating.
Joseph will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.
