Joseph McLaughlin, a devoted family man, respected professional, and friend to many, peacefully passed away on November 5, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born on August 10, 1935, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Joe spent the last 30 years living in Meadville, PA with his second wife, Sally (Biltz).
He was the beloved son of the late Joseph P. and Josephine (Wnuk) McLaughlin. He was also preceded in death by his cherished wife of 34 years, Mary (McLaud) McLaughlin, and his sister Constance Drelick.
Joe was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Grove City College. He also proudly served his country as a Corporal in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. His time in the military was a defining period of his life, instilling in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment, that remained with him throughout his life and was well known to his family.
In 1969, Joe moved his family to Ashland, Ohio, where he worked, raised his children, and became an active member of the community. His spirit of service extended well beyond his family and career. Over the years, he volunteered in numerous capacities, including as a coach, Boy Scout leader, and in many roles at St. Edward's Parish. He was generous with his time and talents and was always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or offer guidance to others. During his early years in Ashland, Joe worked as an accountant for Faultless Rubber Company and HydroMatic Pumps. He later changed careers and worked as a project manager for UBrand Corporation and Shiloh Industries, retiring in 1996. A man of many talents, Joseph had a passion for woodworking, spending countless hours in his workshop crafting furniture and teaching his children the art of working with tools. His love for music was evident in the joy he found playing the harmonica, sharing his talent with friends and family. Joe loved sports and enjoyed swimming and playing basketball at the Ashland YMCA, as well as participating in a golf league. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, following their games with enthusiasm and loyalty.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sally, brothers Charles and Tom (Dee), and sister Mary Kay (Larry) Lowery. Joe's legacy lives on in his children: Michael (Judy), Jeanne (Mike)Turk, Daniel (Nancy), and Douglas (Laura). Joseph was a proud grandfather to Erin and Jessie McLaughlin, Kevin and Ryan Turk, Ian (Jessica) and Kate McLaughlin, Andrew, Mary, and Elizabeth McLaughlin. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, including 42 nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Joe. He was delighted when he heard the news of his first great- grandchild, Lillian McLaughlin, who was born the week before his passing, adding a new generation to the family he loved so deeply.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Joe on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine Street, Meadville.
Joe will return to Ashland, Ohio, where he raised his family and spent many years of his life, for interment and a private service for family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Joseph welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
