Joseph "Joe" Frank Thomas, 87, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Wesbury Retirement Community.

Joseph was born in Erie, PA on November 8, 1938, a son of the late Angelo and Jennie (Casillo) Tomassi.

On July 2, 1960, Joe married Dianne M. Dobry; after 55 years of marriage she preceded him in death on February 15, 2015.

A graduate of Academy High School, Joe also earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Scottsdale Community College. He began a successful career with United Parcel Service as a driver, before working his way up to management, retiring in 1994. He was a former member of the Elks. A proud U.S. veteran, Joe joined the Navy on November 9, 1955, and served his country honorably until his discharge on September 23, 1959. His last assignment was aboard the USS Barton DD 722 where he fostered his maritime passion. This passion carried over to the countless cruises he loved experiencing. Over the years, Joe had also lived in Florida and Arizona. Regardless of where he lived, Joe had his favorite golf courses and loved being on the greens. His great sense of humor and quick wit was second to none, which made him a great storyteller. He had an appreciation for all types of music and loved singing. Joe never forgot the importance of his Italian heritage, and many knew his last name was changed from Tomassi to Thomas, during the immigration process. Joe was fortunate to find love again with Margaret (Peggy) Jindra who preceded him in death on July 5, 2023. He spent his remaining years in the company of his dear friend Barbara Smith. Joe will be most remembered for his strong sense of family and will be sadly missed.

Joe is survived by his daughter Christie Antoun (Gregory) of Meadville; a grandson Justin Minman (Molly) of Meadville; four great grandsons Brody, Grant, Ryan, Beau Minman.

In addition to his parents and wife Dianne of 55 years Joe was preceded in death by his stepmother Annette Thomas.

Private services will be held.

Joe will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery.
