Joseph "Joe" C. Tartaglione, 92, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Embassy of Park Avenue.

Joe was born in Meadville, on February 14, 1932, a son of the late Allessandro and Angelina (Morell) Tartaglione.

On June 6, 1953 Joe married Carol Montana; she survives.

While still in high school, Joe was serving in the PA National Guard. In 1950, between his junior and senior years at Meadville High, he was called to active duty as part of the Korean war unit activation. Unselfishly answering the call of duty, Technical Sergeant Tartaglione missed out on his senior year of high school, which among other things, included his position of football team captain. He deployed with the 28th Infantry Division to Heilburn, Germany in support of post WW II occupations. Sgt. Tartaglione served as platoon squad leader in the heavy mortar company until his honorable discharge in 1952. His awards included the National Defense Service Ribbon and German Occupation Medal. Upon his return to Meadville, he attended Slippery Rock College and then began a 27 year career with the Meadville Tribune. In the 12 years that followed he worked in the Men's Athletic Department of Allegheny College as equipment manager. Not one to remain idle, Joe continued working another 22 years at Meadville Walmart, finally retiring in 2014. When he wasn't working, Joe enjoyed coaching various teams including the 7th Grade basketball program of the former St. Brigid School, Little League Baseball, having won two championships, Little Gridders Football, and finished his coaching career as assistant coach for Saegertown High School Boys Basketball.

Over the years he was a member of the former American Legion of Guys Mills, Meadville American Legion Post #111, and VFW Post #2006.

In addition to his wife, Carol, of 71 years, Joe is survived by three children Susan Walker (Richard), Sally Ann Forcier, Mark Tartaglione (Jennifer); eight grandchildren; Erik Minman (Jennifer), Amanda Joyal (Chris), Lt.
