Joseph J. Anselmo, 90, of 773 Alden St., Meadville, passed away Sunday, February 14th, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
Joseph was born in Pittsburgh on March 12, 1919, a son of the late Rosario and Isabella (Catalano) Anselmo.
On February 8, 1945 Joseph married Mary D. Frisina; she survives.
He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, where he served as an Eucharistic Minister, administering communion and visited the sick in local hospitals and nursing homes. He had been a member of the Holy Name Society.
After 36 years of service, Joseph retired from the United States Postal Service. He previously had been employed by the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad. A veteran of the US Navy, Joseph served his country during WW II from October 5, 1943 until his honorable discharge on October 3, 1945. Joseph was a charter member, founder and one of the 15 original organizers of the former Federal Employee Credit Union. An avid golfer, Joseph was also sports enthusiast.
In addition to is wife Mary of 65 years, Joseph is survived by four children Joseph Anselmo and his wife Bobby of Phoenix, AZ, James Anselmo, John Anselmo and Fran Smith, Mary Elizabeth Beachy and her husband David all of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by four brothers Frank, Sam, John and Phillip Anselmo, three sisters Rose Brescione, Marie Brescione and Ann Triola.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 9-10 AM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 18th, 2010, with Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Dr., Erie, PA 16505 or Alzheimers Association-N/W PA, 1128 State St., Suite 301, Erie, PA 16501.
