Jon H. Fleischer, Sr.

Jon H. Fleischer, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Apache Junction AZ on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. He was born February 7, 1949 in New Castle, PA. He was the oldest son of Albert Fleischer, Sr. and Katheryn (Reiter) Fleischer. He married Sherry Emig Ferguson on August 23, 1980.

Jon was a graduate of New Castle High School, a 1971 graduate of Penn State University Main campus and later received a degree in computer science from Edinboro University. He was a science and chemistry educator for over 35 years at Crawford Central School District. He was the Meadville Bulldog Golf coach for many years, and established a girls Bulldog Golf team. Many of his golfers advanced to the PIAA State Championships in Hershey.

For the past 15 years, Jon and Sherry enjoyed spending their winters in Florence AZ. Jon was an avid golfer in PA and AZ, hiker in the Superstition Mountains, rock-hounder and master chess player. He participated in many online international chess tournaments.

He was a member of the Meadville Country Club, Florence Gardens Rock Club, and Apache Junction Rock Club for many years.

Jon cherished his grandchildren, proudly attending all of their numerous sporting activities.

Survivors in addition to his wife Sherry of 44 years include two sons, Jon Fleischer, Jr. (Kate) and Jeff Ferguson (Kari), all of Saegertown, four grandchildren: Wyatt (fiancé Molly) and Wesley (Alexa) Fleischer, Breanna and Marlea Ferguson, and a great grand-daughter Charlotte Fleischer with another great grand-daughter on the way. He is also survived by two brothers, Albert (Marlene) Fleischer, Jr. of New Castle and Bruce Fleischer, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

No services are being planned. He will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
