John C. Erie, Sr.

John C. Erie, Sr., 84, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.

John was born in Boyers, on September 11, 1940, a son of the late Tony and Caterina (Marcello) Erie.

On November 21, 1959, John married Joyce Cypher; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2023.

He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Church.

A hard worker all of his life, John began his 42 year career as a carman/welder on July 27, 1964, with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, later known as Conrail, and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad on June 1, 2006. Additionally, alongside his wife, in 1969 they began Johnny's Spaghetti House at 873 Water St. in Meadville and they also owned and operated the former Johnny's Pizza on Water Street and T.J. Pizza on Poplar Street for 33 years, and for 56 years, they worked the family pizza booth at the Crawford County Fair. He was a lifetime member of the Italian Civic Club. John enjoyed visiting the casinos and was an avid sports fan; he especially enjoyed following the Pittsburgh Pirates. John will be most remembered as a go-getter who was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

John is survived three sons John C. Erie, Jr. (Carol), Anthony "Tony" Erie, Mark Erie (Heather) all of Meadville; nine grandchildren Thomas, Catrina, Robert, Matthew, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Zoe, Emma and Lydia; seven great grandchildren Taylor, Liam, Aden, Stetson, Wyatt, Ada and Shailae; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, Joyce, of nearly 64 years, John was preceded in death by a son Dennis Erie and a brother Andrew Erie.

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 10 AM with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.

John will be laid to rest with his wife, Joyce, in St. Agatha Cemetery.
