Joan B. Cornell, 90, of Meadville, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Meadville Medical Center
Joan was born in Meadville, on November 17, 1934, a daughter of the late Hamilton and Florence (Richardson) Bortner.
On June 24, 1977, Joan married Robert C. Cornell; he preceded her in death on May 17, 2021.
She was an active member of Victory Church, Meadville, where she was involved with the food pantry. She previously had been a member of First Assembly of God where she volunteered with the food pantry and served as a Sunday School teacher.
Always a hard worker, Joan went to work part time in the cafeteria at Meadville High School following her retirement from Seton School. She had previously been employed by the former Isaly's Store working at both the Chestnut and North Street locations. Additionally, for more than 25 years, she provided child care for several local families, caring for each child as if they were her own. She was proud to be a member of T.O.P.S. Club of Cochranton for over 25 years and a member of K.O.P. for over 20 years. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Senior Bowling League. Her greatest joy was to bake and share her delicious baked goods with family and friends.
Joan is survived two children David Mattocks, Jr. of Saegertown, Sharon Chapman (Timothy) of Belmont, NH; eleven grandchildren Monique Stallings (Scott), Isaiah Mattocks (Heather), Elijah Mattocks (Katherine), Jeff Mattocks, Peter Mattocks, Jude Mattocks, Ezra Mattocks, John Chapman, Mark Chapman, Brian Chapman, Christopher Hollern (Megan); eight great grandchildren Brittany, Hanna and Anna Stallings, Dakota, Malachi, TaraBeth Mattocks, Lydia and Willow Mattocks; six great great grandchildren Neveah and Izabella Stallings, Declan, Maddox, Sawyer, and Bennett Hollern; many nieces and nephews including Mary Brewton (Richard) who cared for her over the years.
In addition to her husband, Robert, of 43 years, she was preceded in death five brothers Merf, Glenn, Donald (MIA in Korea), Billy, Chuck, five sisters Ella Mae, June, Lois, Ruth, her twin sister Jean, and daughter in law Neoma Mattocks.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 PM, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE, where a Memorial Service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Adam Schooley officiating.
Joan will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
