Jeffrey Alan Briggs, 63, of Meadville, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019, at home surrounded by his family.
Jeff was born in Meadville, on July 1, 1956, a son of Doris Ann (Jacklett) Briggs and the late Granville P. Briggs.
Jeff married Judy (Rossi) Maziarz and they were together for 38 years.
Jeff retired from Meadville Area Sewer Authority. He began working for the City of Meadville in 1987 in the Wastewater Division as a truck driver and was promoted to Wastewater Operator I in 1988. In 1993 he was promoted to Labor Foreman and was in charge of the maintenance duties for the treatment plant and lift stations. Jeff possessed the innate ability to absorb and understand equipment manuals needed for the repair and maintenance of the plant. He was willing to tackle any job and served as a mentor and leader to the MASA staff. It was evident that Jeff loved his job and was proud of his work in keeping the plant running. In his earlier years Jeff was employed by Morton Buildings. Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Saegertown High School. He was a hard and dedicated worker all of his life. When he wasn't on the job, he enjoyed woodworking, building and fixing just about anything. Whether at work or at home, Jeff was a natural problem solver. He was known to find a better way, a smarter way or a faster way of doing things. His willingness to help anyone in need had no bounds.
Jeff loved all things music. In a second, he could recognize the voice of any singer and could just as easily sing every word to their songs. He loved to sing and followed all genres of music. He also played multiple instruments including the harmonica and guitar. His contagious laugh and ability to tell a story will never be forgotten. Jeff will be remembered as a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; and now he has become a wonderful guardian angel.
In addition to his wife, Judy, Jeffrey is survived by his children Mitchell Maziarz III (Patty), Kristine Cox (Erik), Jennifer Maziarz (companion Ken Wood), all of Meadville; his grandchildren Alexis Main of Pittsburgh, Emily Main, Christopher Cox, Alyssa Maziarz, Mitchell Maziarz IV, all of Meadville; his mother Doris Ann Briggs of Saegertown; his sister Beverly Shea (Dan) of Saegertown, his brother Larry Briggs (Janet) of Meadville; his many nieces and nephews whom he adored his whole life.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Brandi Briggs and his father Granville Briggs.
Per Jeff's wishes no public services will be held. He will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.
Jeff's family would like to thank everyone for all the kindness shown to them during Jeff's illness. The visits, phone calls, thoughts, prayers, etc. mean more than words can say.
In Jeff's memory, please consider lending a needed hand to someone you know or don't know. Any act of kindness will honor him.
