Janet "Jan" S. Miller

Janet "Jan" S. Miller, 80, of Meadville, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 28, 2020.

She was born in Meadville on September 12, 1939 to the late George and Virginia (Baird) Shimmel.

On October 27, 1961 she married David P. Miller, a local funeral director. This year would have marked their 59th wedding anniversary.

She was an active member of First Christian Church where she sang in the musical cantatas, trios, solos, mixed quartets and also played the piano. For many years she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a former member of the Christian Womans After Five Club.

After 34 1/2 years of service, Jan retired in 2001 from the City of Meadville where she was employed as Administrative Secretary in the Engineers Office. A Past President of the Meadville Golden K Kiwanis Club, she had also served as Club Secretary for 18 years. She was a former member of the Meadville Kiwanis Club and a member of the Sweet Violets Red Hat Society and she enjoyed her card club family. Jan and David delighted in the 25 years of going to Stoney Lake Wantasa Resort in Canada with their son David and his cousin Ron Foulk where they had great times fishing with their dear friends Park and Donna Teasdale and their children Troy and Holly. Jan and Dave also loved spending their winters in Florida for many years

In addition to her husband, David, Jan is survived by a son David P. Miller, Jr.; a sister in law and brother in law Alma and John Foulk; Peggy Miller, mother of her grandchildren; her granddaughter Courtney Miller and her son Julius Hardin; her grandson Travis Miller (Jenna) and their daughter Myla, all of Meadville. She is further survived by a very special friend, Jan Van Tuil, who was like a younger sister to her; two nieces Tina Garver, Joy Morrison; a nephew Ron Foulk, all of Meadville; three cousins George Schieber (Joanne) of Vero Beach, FL, Sue Holcomb (Dennis), and Wayne Shimmel (Colleen) both of Meadville.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by a brother in law Darwin Miller, sister in law Maryln Miller, nephew James Foulk and cousins Ralph Shimmel and William Schieber.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from 10-12 at First Christian Church, 503 N. Main Street, Meadville, where Services will follow at 12 PM with a very personal and dear friends, Lary Williams and Kurt Van Tuil, officiating. CDC guidelines are suggested.

Jan will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jan's memory to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 503 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
