James E. Stewart, 87, of Meadville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

He was born in Meadville on April 15, 1939, a son of the late Edwart Stewart and Anne (Gilmore) Stewart.

He married Kathryn M. (Katy) Davidson on July 22, 1961. She preceded him in death December 2, 2013.

He was a 1957 graduate of Meadville Senior High School. He worked at Viscose and GTI. He then worked as a purchasing agent at Talon where he traveled overseas several times to Japan and Germany. After Talon closed he worked as a purchasing agent at Syst-A-Matic Tool where he retired in 2004. He was the Exalted Ruler of the Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and was instrumental in the move of the lodge from the original location on Water Street to North Main Street Extension. He played golf in several local golf leagues over the years including Hailwood, Oakland Beach, and Mt. Hope Golf Courses. He loved beach vacations with family and friends and he and Katy traveled to several islands including Aruba and Punta Cana. He was a true Pittsburgh sports fan, including the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He was a member of St. Bridgid’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Troutner (Gary), Cynthia Yoder (Scott) all of Cochranton; three grandsons, Kyle Troutner (Bethany) of Erie, Austin Troutner (Alysha) of Cochranton, Garrett Yoder (girlfriend Hannah Richards) of Vienna, Ohio; three great grandchildren, Paxton, Weston, and Elliana Kate Troutner; a sister, Marian Watkins (Rick) of Saegertown; several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

James will be laid to rest with his wife, Katy, in St. Brigid Cemetery, Meadville.
