Glen L. Thompson, 93, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Marquette Hospice House.

He was born on May 14, 1931 in Meadville, to the late Howard F. and Helen (Williams) Thompson.

He married the former Carol Sherred; she survives.

He attended Meadville High School and was in charge of the Class Reunions for Classes 1949 and 1950 for several years.

He served in active duty in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952. He attended Allegheny College. He then served in the National Guard from 1954 to 1965 attaining the rank of First Sergeant. He was employed as a conductor for the Erie, Erie-Lackawanna, and Connrail Railroads from 1953 until his retirement in 1992. Glen was a local chairman for the ORC&B and BRT Unions. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #234, Coudersport AASR Consistory, Elks Lodge #219, VFW #2006, and the Meadville Club. He also served as commander for the Charles N. Stafford Post #111 from 2002 until 2005 and was instrumental in merging Posts #111 and #282 and in opening the new Legion building on Cussewago Road in Meadville. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, and enjoyed traveling with his wife across the United States.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, a daughter Melissa Mulhollan (Brian) of DuBois; Stephanie R. Thompson of New Mexico, G. Lynne Stambaugh of Savannah, GA, G. Douglas Thompson (Brenda) of Franklin; a sister Mary Jo Smock of Meadville; grandchildren Megan and Matthew Mulhollan, Justin Porter, Jessica and Lauren Stambaugh, Zachary, Ashley and Brandon Thompson; and several great grandchildren; a brother in law Thomas Sherred (Diana) of Dunellon, FL; nephews John Smock of Meadville and Casey Sherred (Amanda) of TX, a niece Lesley O'Bannon (Derek) of FL,

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a niece Kelly McCrory.

A memorial service will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Full military honors will follow by VFW Post #2006.

The family would like to thank David Hornstein, Adele Hatheway, John Graham, Lonnie Cauvel, Lukay Traylor, Larry and Tina Johnston, also Dr. Sean Unice, VA Health Agents Jim and Beth, Hospice of Crawford County, and most of all Tammy Manuel for everything.
