Gerald "Jerry" R. Derby, 92, of Meadville, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Embassy of Park Ave., Meadville

Gerald was born in Meadville, on September 2, 1933, a son of the late Clyde and Laura (Hogue) Derby.

On April 17, 2004, he married Loeta M. Langley, she preceded him in death on December 14, 2022. Jerry had previously married Marian L. Frisina on May 15, 1965; she preceded him in death on January 4, 1998.

He was an active member of St. Mary of Grace Church, where he served as Sacristan and in many other capacities.

Jerry was a graduate of the former St. Agatha High School and attended the former Alliance College. He retired from the Data Processing Dept. of the former Talon, Inc. after 33 years of service. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, US Navy, Jerry served his country from June 18, 1951 until his honorable discharge in July 1954. He was a member of Meadville Elks #219, Meadville Eagles and a life member of VFW Post #2006. Jerry was a long time volunteer at Meadville Medical Center, the local Soup Kitchen and was an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph. He enjoyed traveling, especially enjoyed taking cruises.

Jerry is survived several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Tom and Gerry King.

Jerry was preceded in death by four brothers Edwin, Donald, Richard and Harold, three sisters Eleanor, Rita and Ella, many nieces and nephews.

At Jerry's request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St. Meadville, with Fr. Mark Hoffman officiating.

Private burial will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post #2006.

If so desired contributions may be made to The Epiphany of the Lord Parish for the benefit of St. Mary's Church, 353 Pine St. or Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, both in Meadville, PA 16335.
