Ford E. Shreve, 86, of Springboro, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Ford was born in Union City on March 30, 1940, a son of the late Ormal Ford and Ruth (Boyer) Shreve.
On May 9, 1964, Ford married the love of his life, Irene M. Biernacki, who survives. Together they shared 61 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion.
He was a longtime member of Christ Evangelical Free Church in Saegertown and, in recent years, attended Hickernell United Methodist Church. Ford’s faith was the foundation of his life. He generously gave his time to prison ministry at SCI Albion and the Crawford County Correctional Facility, touching many lives through his “Walk in Your Faith” ministry and offering hope and encouragement to all he met.
A proud veteran, he entered the United States Army on October 13, 1958, serving honorably with the 82nd Airborne Division until October 12, 1960. He was called back to duty during the Berlin Wall era and served again until August 15, 1962. He often shared stories from his time in the Army, remembering those years with pride. In July 1992, Ford retired from the United States Postal Service after many years as a dedicated rural mail carrier in Saegertown. Ford found great joy in the outdoors. He loved gardening, hunting small game and deer, and working as a hobby farmer, where he raised his own beef cattle. He took pride in caring for the land and providing for his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Irene, Ford is survived by four children: James F. Shreve (Pamela) of Guys Mills; Diane M. Gooding (David) of Conway, SC; Patricia A. Frano (John) of Meadville; and Paul A. Shreve (Denise) of Edinboro. He is also lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Shreve (Linda) of Memphis, Tennessee, and William Shreve of Panama, New York; as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Ford was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Faith Elizabeth Shreve; three brothers, Tony, Robert, and Mark; and a sister, Roberta.
Visitation is from 10 AM - 1 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, where Funeral Services will follow at 1 PM with Rev. Jeff Wilson of Christ Evangelical Free Church, officiating.
Ford will be laid to rest in Saegertown Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
