Ethel Jean Morante, 77, of Conneaut Lake, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Ethel was born in Meadville, on January 29, 1948, a daughter of the late Amie and Erminia "Ann" (Gervasoni) Morante.
Ethel graduated from Meadville High School in 1965 and Edinboro State College in 1969. Retiring after 40 years of service, she began teaching all levels of math at Conneaut Valley High School where she was well loved and respected by her former students. This was evidenced anytime she was greeted out in public by them. She was a long time member and president of PA State Education Association. Ethel was an active member of St. Mary of Grace Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She was Chairman of the Columbus Day Spaghetti Dinners and volunteered with funeral luncheons. In her earlier years she visited and delivered communion to the homebound and volunteered with church cleaning. Ethel will be most remembered for her generous giving personality; always there to help anyone in any way possible. She was fiercely independent and loyal. A wonderful baker, she was known for her lemon meringue pies. Her love of children was reflected in the way she interacted with her nieces and nephews. She always found humor in their mischievous ways. She was the beloved aunt to all. It was a joy to watch her interact with her great niece, Brynn; they had a special bond.
Ethel is survived by her sister Patricia Powell; her loving nephews Jeff Powell (Heather) and Aaron Powell. Growing up as neighbors, she made an unbreakable bond with cousins Tita Gibson (Ron) and Pat Mantini (Mary). She will be missed by all who called her aunt: Natalie; Logen; Carissa (Jeff) and their children Ryan and Tyler; Michael (Janie) and their children Monica and Nate; Marie (Matt) and their children Megan and John; David; Michael (Stephanie) and their children Joseph and James; several cousins including Robert Cook and Jeannie Gilson; and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her brother in law Robert "Bob" Powell.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10-11 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, where a Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11 AM with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.
Ethel will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.
