Mr. Eddie Joe Burnett went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was born on July 4, 1937, in Zebulon, Georgia, to the late K.C. and Ida Ruth Burnett. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra B. Burnett (July 22, 2025), and his son, Darren V. Burnett (February 29, 1968).
Eddie was a lifelong and faithful member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, where he served diligently as a Trustee and joyfully sang in the Hallelujah Choir. He was a longtime resident of Meadville, PA, until his health declined. In December 2020, he relocated to Erie, PA, with his family and later moved to North Carolina with his children.
He was employed with PPG Industries (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) for 30 years, retiring on June 1, 2001. Eddie was a man of great dignity, courage, and perseverance. Despite many health challenges, he never complained and lived his life with strength and grace.
Eddie was the proud father of eight children: Darren V. Burnett (deceased), Cheryl A. Burnett of Greensboro, NC; Edward J. Burnett (Rhonda) of Meadville; Kenneth A. Burnett (Phoinece) of Winston-Salem, NC; Tracy B. Hargraves of Greensboro, NC; Mark A. Burnett (Neice) of Knightdale, NC; Billie Jo Vazquez (Jaime) of Erie, and Tiernea N. Hillard of Erie. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Helen Winbush, of Griffin, GA; Rev. Melissa Burnett of Meadville; Millicent Burnett of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Rev. Marvin Burnett (Deborah) of Meadville; Ike Burnett of Meadville; and Rev. Wayne Burnett (Constance) of Erie.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Anna Ruth Smith, Genell Brown, Elizabeth Burnett, Betty Jenkins, Melinda Brown, Melville Burnett, Robert L. Burnett, and Winifred Burnett.
Eddie will also be remembered by a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and countless friends. Eddie had a special gift for humor and was truly a comedian at heart, bringing joy and laughter to everyone he met. He was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Viewing will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 792 North Main Street, Meadville, PA., with Pastor Cameron Bowman officiating.
Eddie will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
