Dr. James R. Kelso of Meadville, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Meadville, on March 28, 1942, the son of the late Joseph and Olive (Higbee) Kelso.

James graduated from Meadville High School in 1960. He then enrolled at Texas Chiropractic College. He earned his Chiropractic degree in 1965. He returned to Meadville to open his practice.

James was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Crawford Lodge #234 of which he was a 32nd Degree member. In addition, he was a former member of Elks BPO #219. He enjoyed dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He starting taking flying lessons at the Greenville Airport and eventually received his private pilot's license.

James is survived by his wife Janet Kelso; two daughters Sharon (James) Collins of Conneaut Lake, Deborah Kelso (Scott Godsave) of Linesville; his grandchildren Joseph (Samantha D'Happart) Kelso of Meadville, Joshua Kelso and Mackenzie Collier of Cleveland, OH, and Justin Kelso of Erie; his great grandchildren Makaylah, Aubriella, Omarah, Kellan and Pryce Kelso. He is further survived by his step children Eileen (David) Wilkinson, Joseph, Bryan (Dianna), and Vince (Melinda) Paris; his step grand children Christopher (Brittany) Wilkinson and their children Haleigh and Brooks Wilkinson; Justin (Taylor) Wilkinson and their daughter Lillian, Anthony (Kirsten) Paris and Nicholas Paris. He is also survived by a sister in law Verna Evans and nieces Linda Hambrick, Lois Evans and Barbara Kysor.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Kelso, a brother Paul Evans, a sister Edith Mae Fausnaught and a nephew William Evans.

The funeral service was private and held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE, on Monday, December 17, 2018.

Burial was held in Venango Cemetery.
