Denise Dolores (Drongosky) Schoenfeldt, 73, of Meadville, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at UPMC Hamot after a sudden illness. She was lovingly surrounded by her family and the angels.
Denise was born September 26, 1951 in Erie, the daughter of the late Hazel Eleanor (Post) Drongosky and Benjamin Drongosky.
Denise attended Kindergarten at MaryVale and Elementary school at St. Andrew School, Erie. She graduated from Villa Maria High School, and enrolled in Pharmacy School at Pitt University. She met the love of her life, Robert C. Schoenfeldt, at a cousin’s wedding, and was immediately smitten. Denise & Bob married on June 1, 1974, celebrating 51 FULL years of marriage to the day. She was employed at Meadville Medical Center as a Pharmacist for 35 years before retiring in 2016.
Denise loved spending time with her family. She was the biggest supporter for ALL of the things her children and grandchildren were involved in. Denise was an avid seamstress and quilter, teaching both of her daughters and granddaughters how to sew and cross-stitch. She enjoyed reading and bird watching, and was a prayer warrior! She was always trying out a new recipe or baking delicious treats.
Denise was a member of St. Hippolyte Church, Frenchtown, where she sang in the choir, was a member of the prayer chain, cooked and served food for the Funeral Luncheon Team, participated in Le Nom du Pere, and was a former member of the Liturgy Committee. Denise and her husband taught Pre-Cana for many years, and were involved in Marriage Encounter and the Cursillo Movement of Erie.
She was a 10 year breast cancer survivor, and credited her continued success to the staff at the Cleveland Clinic. Denise was always kind and such a gentle soul. She was the best hugger in the world, and will be greatly missed!
Denise is survived by her husband Bob, and their two daughters and their families: Danielle Schoenfeldt (Jim Cihon) of Erie and their three sons Brendan, Aidan, and Connor; and Darcie Schoenfeldt (Andrew Pastor) of Meadville and her daughters Claire (Chris DiPerna) and Ella, and her son Luca. She is also survived by an older brother Ben Drongosky (Carol) of Amherst, NY, dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins, several “adopted” daughters who always held a special place in her heart, and many special friends.
Denise was preceded in death by her parents, and her Aunt Gladys Franz who helped raise her for a time.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at both Meadville Medical Center ER and UPMC Hamot's Stroke Team, ICU staff, and Comfort Care Team. Their kind and loving care was exceptional, assisting Denise as she began the next part of her spiritual journey.
There will be a viewing held on Wednesday, June 4, from 2-6 PM at St. Hippolyte Church, 26012 N. Frenchtown Road, Guys Mills, with light refreshments available. Viewing will also be held Thursday, June 5, from 9-10 AM, followed by a joyful Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. The family asks that you adorn yourself in colorful attire. There will also be a luncheon following Mass, to which all are invited to join us and share their happy memories.
Interment will be private.
