David N. Sekel

David N. Sekel, 83, of Meadville, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Wesbury United Methodist Community. He was surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Cleveland, OH on February 9, 1935, a son of the late Louis and Anna (Sveda) Sekel.

On June 21, 1958, David married Theresa Cappellino; she predeceased him on June 30, 2017.

He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

Over the years David had been employed by Laser Tool, Greenleaf Corporation, Grants Feed Store and American Viscose. Additionally he was known for being a master mechanic of small engine repairs. A member of the US Army, Korean Conflict, David served his country honorably from November 23, 1953 until October 27, 1956 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Eagles Club and a social member of the Italian Civic Club (ICC). Whether golfing, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers or enjoying family meals, time spent with family was his greatest joy. He will be sadly missed.

David is survived by five children and a daughter in law: Ann Nelson and her husband Doug of Meadville, Natalie Sekel (wife of deceased son, David), Mark Sekel and his partner Tim of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia Lobdell and her husband Jody of Warren, Christine Wilke and her husband Dennis of Oakdale, Amy Martin and her husband Shawn of Broadview Heights, OH, thirteen grandchildren Douglas Nelson and his wife Courtney, Angela Stansfield and her husband Michael, Daniel Nelson and his wife Jenna, Melissa Neece and her husband Jonathan, Lauren Barr and her husband Eric, Rachael Lobdell, Kathryn Lobdell, Julia Lobdell, Benjamin Wilke, Nicholas Wilke, Anna Wilke, Mackenzie Martin, Haley Martin, three great grandchildren Mary Neece, Andrew Neece, Preston Nelson, three sisters Kate Newell, Monica Mitchell both of Cambridge Springs, Alvira "Bootsie" Netzler and her husband Ronald of Edinboro and Florida, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and his wife Theresa of 59 years, David was preceded in death by a son David Sekel and a brother Louis Sekel.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2:00- 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 10th at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 5:30 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 11th at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Andrew Boyd, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, David will be laid to rest with his wife, Theresa, in St. Brigid Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 Park Ave. or Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty Street, or Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, all in Meadville, PA 16335.
