David "Dave" E. Thayer

David E Thayer (Dave), 85, of Meadville, went to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday, August 9th, 2025.

Dave was born on December 31st, 1939, a son of Everett and Catharine (Flatt) Thayer.

He was an active member of Meadville Alliance Church.

Dave graduated from Randolph High School, and served honorably in the U.S. Air Force (Vietnam) as a search and rescue medic, based in Seattle, Washington.

On September 3rd, 1964, Dave married the love of his life, A. Kathryn Cagle. She preceded him in death on May 9th, 2020.

Dave wore many hats, both literally and figuratively, and began his working years at the American Viscos, and later, began Thayer Construction. In 1987, he went on to open the Meadville Dairy Queen with his daughter and son-in-law.

Dave was a man of principle, believed in hard work, and was always busy with a project or two. If Dave could be remembered for one thing, he would want it to be that he loved Jesus, and strived to serve Him well his entire life.

Dave is survived by his daughter Julie L. Makepeace, his son Michael P. Thayer, his beloved grandchildren Andrew (Laura) Makepeace, Ryan (Cassie) Makepeace, Dr. Joshua (Cpt. Dr. Nicole, U.S. Army) Makepeace, Alexandria Thayer, Justin (Hayley) Makepeace, and Autumn Thayer, as well as five great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frederick Thayer, his beloved wife Kathy, and son in law William “Bill” Makepeace.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Meadville Alliance Church, 660 N. Main St., Meadville, and also from 11 AM-12 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, where Funeral Services will follow at 12 PM with Rev. Jeff Conley, Pastor, officiating

David will be laid to rest next to his wife, Kathryn, in Greendale Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dave's memory to Meadville Alliance Church, 660 N.. Main St., Meadville.
