Craig Bachman Powell, 77, of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Craig was born in Rochester, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1949, a son of the late Ronald Wallace and Geraldine Mae (Bachman) Powell.

On June 12, 1971, Craig married Carol Jean Prinkey, his college sweetheart. She survives.

Craig was an active member of Littles Corners Methodist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board and as a Trustee, leading many construction projects at the church. He also sang bass in the choir, hitting the low notes in many old country hymns, and taught Sunday School. His faith was at the center of his life always.

Craig was a Renaissance man with a remarkably broad range of knowledge and interests, and a lifelong learner whose curiosity never ceased. From a young age, Craig loved animals and digging in the dirt, and he began farming about as soon as he learned to walk. He graduated from Penn State’s College of Agriculture with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971.

Craig and Carol lived and worked on their farm on Valley Road for 44 years. Craig also served as General Manager for Farmers Union Milk Producers and worked as a lender for Farm Credit. Craig retired as a Credit Analyst for Mercer County State Bank in 2014. More informally, Craig served as a consultant, advisor, and mentor to many farmers, friends, young people, and others, who valued his wise counsel.

His interests and hobbies were as varied as his career. Craig never met a stranger, and his favorite pastime was meeting new people and asking them questions about their lives. He was an avid deer hunter, spending many quiet mornings in the peace of the Cussewago Bottoms. He also enjoyed piloting his single engine airplane for many years.

Craig was a humble man who loved to say, “it’s better to be lucky than good.” But he was the best.

In addition to his wife, Carol, of 55 years, Craig is survived by his son, William “Bill” Powell (Rachael); a beloved granddaughter, Mara Powell; his sister, Susan Randolph (Larry) of Lutz, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Ross Prinkey of Darlington, Pennsylvania, and John Prinkey of Columbus, Ohio; as well as many beloved cousins, including Steve Nameth (Sharon) of Dublin, Ohio; Harold Kendall (Rose) of Hookstown, Pennsylvania; and Lucy Kirchner of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, who were more like siblings to Craig; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law Linda Brink (Randy).

Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at Stephen P. Mizner, Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA, 16335.
