Claire E. Sherrod, 94, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Wesbury, surrounded by family.

Claire was born in Albion, on May 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Clair and Bernice (Titus) Whaley.

On September 20, 1952, Claire married Ward Sherrod; he preceded her in death on December 10, 2015.

She was an active member of First Christian Church and of the Christian Workers Class. Her faith was very important to her.

In 1989, after 31 years of service, Claire retired as a Registered Nurse from Meadville Medical Center, having begun her nursing career at the former Spencer Hospital with most of her time working in Pediatrics. She was a member of the Harvard Medical School Nurses' Health Study. Claire enjoyed her morning cup of coffee, reading the newspaper, and working crossword puzzles. She delighted in being a homemaker and time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Claire is survived by two children Jane Dean, William Sherrod (Mary) both of Meadville; four grandchildren Amy Kessler (William), Laura Wilgus, Paul Dean (Gabrielle), Luke Sherrod (Mallory); four great grandchildren Jacob Kessler, Emily Kessler, Brooke Wilgus, Wyatt Ward Sherrod; sister Valania Niemla (R. John) of Albion; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Ward, of 63 years, Claire was preceded in death by a son in law Edward Dean.

Visitation is from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, and also from 10-11 AM on Saturday, May 23, where Funeral Services will follow at 11 AM with Robert McGuire officiating.

Claire will be laid to rest with her husband, Ward, in Greendale Cemetery.
