Christine "Chris" A. Jonas, 71, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Meadville Medical Center.
Chris was born in Meadville, on May 21, 1952, a daughter of the late Arthur "Richard" and Florence (Buttray) Miller.
On May 29, 1983 Chris married Howard Jonas; he preceded her in death on December 19, 2020.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Meadville.
A 1970 graduate of Meadville High School, Chris excelled in Home Economics and became a wonderful homemaker. She became employed by the former Super Duper before working with and becoming co-owner with her dad in the Catering and Vending Machine Business. She later went on to work at the former Quality Markets. During all those years she continued to master her cooking and baking skills. Whatever she created in the kitchen was filled with her love. She made countless specialty wedding cakes, birthday cakes and cakes for all types of events. Preparing food for family functions gave her as much joy as attending them. For years she hosted and prepared all the food for her late husband's work and union events. All the while she did this with a happy spirit and giving heart. Always one to put the needs of others before her own, she was an angel to many and happiest when she was giving. She had a soft spot for the elderly and worked as an advocate for many, ensuring they were treated fairly, with dignity and respect. A nature lover, Chris especially enjoyed watching the deer and humming birds. She will be sadly missed.
Chris is survived by a daughter Renee' Love of Meadville, a grandson Tyler Love of Meadville whom she helped raise and gave her much joy in doing so; her step children and step grandchildren on the Jonas side whom she loved and were very important to her; a brother Dr. Daniel Miller (Rebecca) of Bangor, MI, her companion William "Bill" H. Hohmann of Meadville; cousins Karl Buttray, David Buttray, Jeffrey Buttray, Julie Roth who was a cousin by blood, but a sister and best friend by heart; many nieces and nephews including Justin Beck with whom she was very close.
In addition to her parents and husband, Howard, of 37 years, Chris was preceded in death by a sister Brenda Beck.
A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held.
Chris will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Chris's memory to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
