Brenda Joy (Newsome) Boyd, of Meadville, passed away peacefully at home on her 78th birthday, Monday, June 29, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Brenda was born in Coldwater, MS on June 29, 1948, a daughter of the late Alvin and Emily (Hoskins) Newsome II.
Her husband George Boyd, Jr. preceded her in death.
Brenda was born, raised and attended schools in Coldwater, MS. She had worked in food service at Allegheny College and the Stone Methodist Church Day Care. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and working in her garden as well as the neighborhood community garden. Brenda's life centered around raising and caring for her family. She was always present in the lives of her children as well as the lives of her grandchildren, extended family, or anyone who needed a helping hand. She will be sadly missed.
Brenda is survived by three children Lawrence Newsome, Joseph Paul Newsome, George Newsome, all of Meadville; three grandchildren Samer Newsome, Georgia Newsome, Branden Smith; two sisters Mary Armmer of Indianapolis, IN, Curas Newsome of Erie; three brothers Sam Nelson and his wife Annabelle of Erie, Alvin Newsome III, Marvin Newsome both of Memphis, TN; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews including Quaishon Campbell whom she helped raise.
In addition to her parents and husband, Brenda was preceded in death by two daughters Sherita Newsome, Levette Newsome; siblings Doris Newsome Swauncy, William Newsome, Murdal Newsome, and Alroy Newsome.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11 AM - 1 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at United Faith Fellowship Church, 561 State Street, Meadville, where a Home Going Service will follow at 1 PM.
Brenda will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
