Betty J. Spaid, age 91, of Meadville, passed away September 7, 2026 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Betty was born August 20, 1935 in Richmond Township to the late John L. Galford and Edna Dilley Galford.
Betty married Robert Spaid on May 28, 1955. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2019.
Betty was a 1953 graduate of Townville High School. After high school, she earned her Cosmetology license from Michael’s Beauty Academy and worked at Alta’s Beauty Shoppe for a short time. Betty then stayed at home to raise her children until they were both in school before she returned to work. She worked at Talon Plant 5 in Pilot and OEB for 26 years, National Tel-Tronics for 8 years, and Abbatron for 15 years. Betty was a talented seamstress and in her younger years made many school clothes, doll clothes, and Halloween costumes for family members, as well as numerous alterations and repairs. Betty also enjoyed working outdoors. In her younger years she would always have a large garden and did a lot of canning.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Darlene Spaid of Erie; a son, Kenneth Spaid of Erie; two brothers, John P. Galford (Jean Schell) and Eugene Galford (Laverne), all of Townville; a sister-in-law, Betty Spaid Galford of Meadville; a brother-in-law, Merle Spaid of Meadville; several nieces and nephews; and her cat.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Robert, of 64 years, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Doris G. Mook Tanner, and a brother-in-law, Carl Spaid.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 1:30-2:30 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 2:30 PM with Betty’s niece, the Rev. Dr. Sharon L. Mook officiating.
Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Robert, in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
