Betty Miller White

Betty Miller White, 53, of Crossingville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 5, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the Marquette Hospice House following a short bout with cancer.

Betty Lou was born March 7, 1968 to Ronald and the late Mollie (Coulter) Miller at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. When her father was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in 1969, her mother and she returned to Meadville to live with her grandparents.

In her early years she attended Calvary Baptist Christian Academy, but during the recession, switched to Cambridge Springs Joint High School, graduating in 1986. While in High School, she participated in chorus, Pom-Pom Squad in the marching band, served as editor of the Senior Yearbook and student Senate.

She became a member of Coon's Corners 4-H Club in 1979 raising Hampshire Sheep and was crowned NWPA Lamb and Wool Queen serving from 1984 - 1986. She served in that capacity for Crawford, Erie and Warren Counties in PA, Ashtabula County in Ohio and Chautauqua County in New York. Her job was to represent the sheep industry.

She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University graduating in 1990, and subsequently earned her Master's Degree from Edinboro University. She was immediately hired at PennCrest School District to work as a Learning Support Teacher at Maplewood High School. To get closer to home, she transferred to Saegertown High School in Learning Support for one year. She had the the best opportunity to transfer directly beside her home to teach fifth grade at Cussewago Elementary School for thirteen fabulous years. When Cussewago Elementary School was closed, she chose to move to Cambridge Elementary School continuing to teach fifth grade for nine more years. She then was moved to a third grade position which she had taught for six years. She will be deeply missed by her colleagues and her students. She was involved with PSEA and her local union PAEA. She served in the local union as vice-president during the 91-92 school year.

In 1990 Betty became a leader of the Coon's Corners 4-H Club serving until it closed in 2018, but she was able to step in as leader of the Bolts and Bytes 4-H Club. She has served on the 4-H advisory board for several years. She was a committee chairman for the Sheep Lead-Line at the Crawford County Fair.

In 2007 she was a founding member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Crossingville, where she served as pianist. Betty has also been a member of the Hayfield Grange since April 17, 1982. She served as chairman of purchasing items for TLC Boxes at Christmas for children in Cussewago Twp. as a community service project.

Betty is survived by her father and step mother Ron and Margie Miller of Crossingville, sister Donna Kibbee (Mike) of Saegertown, brother John Miller (Clara Simmons) of Saegertown, uncle and aunt Sam and Josie Miller of VA, aunt Bev Heiniger of Saegertown, nephew Daniel Kibbee of Saegertown, niece Katelyn Way (Rian) of Saegertown, cousins Amanda Collier, of VA, Sara Sweeney of CT, step-brother Brian Peterman of Meadville, step sister Jill Morgan (Tom) of Saegertown, step-brother Todd Peterman (Jen) of Meadville, step nieces and nephews Madison, Kyla and Chloe Morgan, Drake and Zach Peterman, Mariah, Maci and Lincoln Peterman, her boyfriend Allen Varner of Meadville, whom she began dating in March 2021. Betty was married to Thomas White from June 22, 1992 until November 2003 and has always been very close with Tom's nieces and nephews and considered them her own. They are Shelby Thomas (Tatom) of TX, Marcie White of Saegertown, Ryan White of Edinboro, and Branda White of California, PA.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mollie Miller, maternal grandparents John S. Coulter (Dorothy), paternal grandparents Arthur Miller (Thelma) and most recently her uncle John F. Coulter.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1-3 and 6-8 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, and also from 10-11 AM on Saturday, February 12, at Lyona Bible Church, 28825 Lyona Road, Guys Mills, where Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Ron Sheldon of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in Carmel-Freeman Cemetery.
