Bernard M. Wise

Bernard Merle Wise, 88, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family.

Bernard was born in Meadville, on June 10, 1933, a son of the late Chauncey and Edna (Lovetta) Wise.

On October 23, 1955 Bernard married Donna Kiser; she preceded him in death on April 29, 2020.

He attended New Beginnings Church of God.

Bernard began his working career with Erie Lackawanna Railroad before entering the US Army on April 30, 1953. He served his country honorably until his discharge on April 13, 1955. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. The years following his discharge, Bernard worked at Kirpatrick Buick as a mechanic, at the former Sunbeam Corporation, the former Peifers Service Station, then returned to Conrail from where he retired as a welder. Not one to remain idle, Bernard continued working at Keystone Construction, then in the Maintenance Department of PennCrest School District. Bernard found contentment in repairing all things; if it could be fixed, he found a way to get it done, earning his nickname, Mr. Fix-it. His other interests were hunting, fishing, tent camping, and in his earlier years he and his wife enjoyed bowling. He had a deep love for his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved to tease. He will be sadly missed.

Bernard is survived by three children, Deborah Ashbaugh of Meadville, Cliff Wise (Wendy) of Saegertown, Kimberly Shaw (Jim) of Townville; nine beloved grandchildren Tina Jordan (Steve), Joe Wise, Shawn Ashbaugh, Darin Ashbaugh (Kristen), Jennifer Ross (Bryan), Scott Ashbaugh (Jessica), Brian Ashbaugh (Marrina), Todd Shaw (Clairee), Travis Shaw; 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; a sister Iris L. Williams of Saegertown; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Donna of 64 years, Bernard was preceded in death by a son in law Ed Ashbaugh; and a brother Victor Wise.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 22, 20221 at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, with Pastor Julie Lamberson officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
