Anne "Corky" (Stewart) Kent

Anne “Corky” Stewart Kent, age 82, passed away on January 13th, 2026, at her home in Conneautville.

She was born in Meadville on October 11, 1943, to Edward Stewart and Anne Gilmore.

Anne graduated Meadville Area High School in 1961 and Edinboro State College in 1968 and went on to earn her master’s degree from Edinboro in 1972.

After moving to Conneautville, Anne taught fourth grade at Conneaut Valley Elementary School for 35 years; she loved teaching that age group because they were becoming their own people while not yet reaching the teenage drama years. She was a longtime member and president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and representative to the National Education Association. In her spare time, Anne was a master seamstress, sewing everything from pant hems to her daughter’s prom dresses. She loved spending time with her many friends of all ages and from all walks of life — her teacher friends, her biker friends, her gym class friends, her Florida RV park friends, and the local friends she’d had since childhood. Anne was a hardcore Pittsburgh sports fan, avidly (if not rabidly) tuned in to the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins while waving a Terrible Towel or wearing a Clemente shirt.

Anne married Robert Fell Kent on November 13, 1965. Over their nearly sixty-year marriage, Corky and Robert built a wonderful life full of love, political rants, travels, laughs, and warm communities of friends.

Anne is survived by brother Jim Stewart of Meadville and sister Marian Watkins of Saegertown; daughters Marian Kent of Northampton, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Kent Seiderer of Weatogue, Connecticut; sons-in-law Aaron Meuse and Gregg Seiderer; and grandchildren Vivian and Anne Meuse and Eli and Jude Seiderer.

Anne lost her love, Robert, nine months ago. She was also preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Nancy, Becky, and Jeffrey.

An informal celebration of life will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, on Saturday, January 17, from 1-3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s name may be made to the Stone Memorial Library in Conneautville or to the American Civil Liberties Union.
