William J. Walsh

After an incredible life as a family man, a business leader, and a community volunteer, on November 26, 2011 William J. Walsh moved on to his next project with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in 1935 to Stephen and Anna (Sownick) Walsh in Sharon, Bill grew up with his brothers Robert and Edward. Bill enjoyed caddying and playing golf, working odd jobs to earn much needed money, and dancing the night away at Buhl Park events. After graduating from Sharon High School in 1953, Bill worked for Westinghouse in Sharon before enlisting in the Air Force. After being honorably discharged, Bill headed to the University of Maryland and Penn State University to earn his Industrial Engineering degree.
He married his high school sweetheart Janet Bailey on June 14, 1958.
Bill worked as a Wage Administrator for New Jersey Zinc Co., an Instructor for Penn State, Faculty Member at Penn State York Campus, and an Engineer for Sawhill Tubular Products before landing an Engineering position with Channellock Inc. During his life in Meadville, he was energetically involved with Meadville Management, local politics, charities, sporting events, and his childrens activities. Bill retired as Channellocks Chief Operating Officer in 1993. After retirement, Bill remained active in the community by volunteering with Saint Agathas Church as a Eucharistic Minister and Mass Lector. He was also a dedicated Stepping Stones substance abuse counselor at local prisons.
Bill was preceded in death by parents Stephen and Anna, and son Michael.
He is survived by his wife of of 53 years Janet, his children Sharon (Walsh) and Tim Asbury; William B. and Anna (Arcangeli) Walsh; Deb (Walsh) and Bill McCafferty, Christine (Walsh) and Lt. Col. Dave Mauser; and Jonathan and Alisa (Reich) Walsh; and grandchildren Connor Asbury; Joshua, Lucas, and Bella Walsh; Emily, Olivia, and Adeline McCafferty; Samantha, Mariah, and Natasha Mauser; and Kalib and Lizabeth Walsh.
Bill was always known for his intellect, fantastic stories, avid thirst for knowledge, sense of humor, outstanding generosity, enthusiasm for sports especially golf, and above all for the love he shared with his family and friends.
Bills final arrangements include a viewing at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville on Friday, December 2 from 5 pm to 8 pm, where a time of sharing will be held at 8 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Agathas Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, on Saturday, December 3 at 1pm with Rev. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with full military honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow at St. Agathas Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
The family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., St. Agathas Church, 353 Pine St., both of Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of your choice.
