William 'I B Billy' A.William 'I B Billy' A. George, 69, of 1213 Carmont Dr., Meadville, passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Florida.
William 'I B Billy' A. George, 69, of 1213 Carmont Dr., Meadville, passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Florida.

Billy was born in Erie, on September 26, 1944, a son of the late Aaron and Mabel (Felt) George.

A graduate of Academy High School, Erie, Billy joined the US Navy on November 27, 1961, where he was stationed in Pensacola, FL, before being transferred to China Lake, CA, Naval Ordnance Test Station. There he was involved with Ordnance Delivery for F-4B Aircraft with Air Development Squadron 5 (VX-5). He was then transferred to Naval Air Station in Iguana, Guam, where he was directly involved with the Vietnam Conflict. While in Guam, he was involuntarily extended twice. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon his honorable discharge on January 24, 1966, Billy was transferred to the Active Reserve at the US Naval Air Station in Willow Grove. Billy was one of the original founders and Vice President of Meadville Plating Company, Inc., from which he retired. He also founded Meadville Aero, Inc., Aircraft Flight School and Charter Company and was one of the former partners of the Lake Harris Hideaway in Tavares, FL. Additionally, he was a commercial related pilot. Billy truly enjoyed flying and allowing others the opportunity to learn to fly. He appreciated spending winters in Florida and enjoyed having a beer with friends. He will be greatly missed.

Billy is survived by a sister Carol Hammond of Meadville, four nieces Chris Acker of VA, Kathy Zimmerman of Franklin, Karen Hammond and Sue McKinnon both of Erie, one nephew Doug Hammond of CA and his loving, longtime companion, Shelly Burchard of Meadville.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a sister Janice Schultz and a nephew Robert Duel, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 - 7:00 on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 1:30 PM.

William will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620.
