William F. Kennedy

William F. Kennedy, 91, a resident of Wesbury since June, 2018, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018.

Born a son of the late David and Ambrosia Kennedy in Olean, NY, he attended St. Brigid Elementary School, Meadville High School and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Having enlisted while in high school, Bill served on an LST landing craft in the US Navy, assigned to the South Pacific Theatre during World War II.

In 1950, he married Dorothy H. Hummel. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Dorothy passed away in 2012.

Bill's first job was as a door to door bakery salesman. His second job was a salesman for a local wholesale grocery distributor. He then spent 17 years as an outside salesman for a specialty chemical company. Following that, he spent 17 years as a marketing manager at Leech Carbide. He then operated his own toolmaker sales corporation until age 65. Until the age of 72, he was the marketing manager for Imperial Newbould. Until the age of 81, he will be remembered as a bag boy at the Meadville Giant Eagle.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Jaycees, Round Table and a 80 year member of the YMCA. He swam with the Y masters swim team, officiated PIAA swimming, was a volunteer skate guard at the MARC and competed in many of the Erie Quad Games. He was an avid cross country skier.

Bill served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, Meadville Community Health Services, Kiwanis Club and the Round Table. He was an interim director of the Crawford Heritage Foundation.

He spent his final years at the YMCA, Arbys coffe-clatch, the Meadville Public Library and bicycling the streets of Meadville.

Sons David and Thomas survive along with grandchildren Mike, Matt, Nick, Jessica, Joshua and great grandchildren Chae, Jadyn, Cameron and Palmer. A son, Kris Thomas passed away in 2017.

Even at 90 years, he was proud of his fitness. A good life.

Private services will be held.
