Walter H. May

Walter H. May, 92, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, formerly of 19065 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Walter was born in Erie on March 3, 1925, a son of the late Walter and Sarah (Brady) May.

On November 27, 1947 Walter married Eileen Towner; she preceded him in death on March 26, 2015.

He was a member of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown.

After 34 years of service, Walter retired from Penncrest School District where he had been employed as a High School Principal. In his earlier years, he was employed as an Industrial Arts teacher. A graduate of the University of California, PA, with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education, Walter went on to earn his Master's Degree in School Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. A WW II veteran, Walter served in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific areas and then recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League where he served two terms as Detachment Commandant and two terms as Commandant of the NW Division. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #473 of Cambridge Springs and was publicly honored as such.

Walter is survived by two daughters Margaret Wehr of Bealeton, VA, Catherine Baggan and her husband Bob of Stafford, VA, a son Steven May of Woodstock, GA, seven grandchildren Christopher, Peter, Libbie, Michael, Lindsey, Hannah, Jordan, a brother Tom May of Erie, several nieces and nephews,

In addition to his parents and his wife, Eileen of 67 years, Walter was preceded in death by a four year old son John May, a brother Kenneth May, three sisters Evelyn Cassano, Audrey Bond and Marilyn Ward.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, where the a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:30 PM by Covenant Lodge #473.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, 358 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, with Rev. Mark Fischer, Pastor, officiating.

Walter will be laid to rest next to his wife, Eileen, in Saegertown Cemetery. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, will follow.
