Stephen Taylor Marshall, 69, of 350 Main St., PO Box 523, Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 at home.
Stephen was born in Colrain, MA on October 28, 1943, a son of the late Robert C. and Jane (Taylor) Marshall.
On July 16, 1971 Stephen married L. Lea Hough Carter; she survives. He had previously married Margaret M. Morton in December, 1964; they divorced.
He was an active attendee of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown, where he served on the Property Committee, ran the Red Cross Blood Drive and faithfully baked the Communion Bread. Additionally, he volunteered with the Soup Kitchen at Stone Methodist Church and was involved with Habitat for Humanity in Erie.
After more than 38 years of service, Stephen retired from Lord Corporation, Saegertown, where he had been employed as a chemist. A 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School, Pittsburgh, Stephen went on to further his education by graduating from Allegheny College in 1965. He served as a Saegertown Borough Zoning Officer for 25 years. His hobbies and interests were many and he enjoyed all of them. He bowled in the Plaza Mens League, the Senior League at Lost Lanes and golfed in the Senior League of Venango Valley. He coached Little League as well as Senior League Baseball. For many years Stephen volunteered his time with the Thurston Classic as a measurer. Stephens flower beds were a delight for all to see. He took great pride in the day lilies, crocuses and mums that lined the street of his home on Main Street in Saegertown. He raised a vegetable garden, enjoyed canning, then entering his goods in the Crawford County Fair. Before the electronic age, he loved working on cars, having worked on many over the years. He also loved riding his Gold Wing as well as driving his vintage Pontiac GTO.
In addition to his wife, Lea, of 41 years, Stephen is survived by three children Aaron Marshall and his wife Jacqueline of Brentwood, TN, Kimberly Eaton and her husband Dan of Lake City, Shane Marshall and his companion Kimberlee Pilewski of Lake City, three step children Jeffrey Carter and his wife Denise of Saegertown, R. James Carter and his wife Donna of Midlothian, VA, Jon Carter and his wife Wendi of Tampa, FL, 15 grandchildren, three brothers Chris Marshall of Santa Rosa, CA, Peter Marshall of Honeydew, CA, Bill Marshall of Ardara, a sister Rosalyn Terry of Southwich, MA, several nieces, nephews and his dear church family.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday February 1, 2013 from 4-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown and also on Saturday from 10-11 at Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, 358 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Kenneth Hough, Pastor of Watson Run Church of God, officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in Saegertown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, PO Box 640, Saegertown, PA 16433 or Bethesda Childrens Home, 15667 State Hwy. 86, Meadville, PA 16335.
