Ruby Jo Mcferren

Ruby Jo McFerren, 65, of 390 Chestnut St., Meadville, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at her home of natural causes.

She was born on August 18, 1948 in Gilbertown Alabama, the child of Genella A. McFerren of Atmore Alabama and Willie Sledge of Detroit Michigan.

She was a student at the Meadville Area Senior High School and a graduate of Edinboro University of PA. She worked for many years as a home health aid and licensed practical nurse. She was a frequent volunteer at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meadville. She was an avid reader, lover of music, and was well known for her generosity and free spirit.

Ruby is survived by two sons; Lee V. McFerren and his wife Lisa of Meadville, Dr. Marcus A. McFerren and his wife Miriam Gohara of Woodbridge, CT; three grandchildren Emilia R. McFerren, Amir M.G. McFerren, and Marlon X. McFerren; two sisters Emma Rose Williams of Shreveport, LA, Denise McFerren of Daphne, AL; a brother, William McFerren, of Beaumont, TX; her nephews Anthony McFerren of Bellefonte, Robert Williams of Shreveport LA, Ernie Williams of Foley, AL; and nieces Delores Williams of Foley, AL, Anzella Goodwin of Greensboro, NC, Denise Williams of Foley, AL, Joanne Bass of Rochester, NY, Liliana Love of Rochester, NY, and her former husband, Rodger L. Montgomery of Meadville.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Jo Wilkerson and the fathers of her two sons, Malcolm D. Daniels (Marcus) and Booker T. Edwards (Lee).

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 1-2 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Berta Newsome-Jones, Pastor of United Faith Fellowship Church, officiating.

The family would like to thank everyone who knew and loved Ruby. Her memories, love for family, and adventurous spirit will live on.
